Movie Scenes That Messed Us Up As Children

Movie Scenes That Messed Us Up As Children

I must admit, that as a child, I got away with a lot of things that other kids didn’t. I was allowed to watch R rated movies when I was very young, and I believe it has shaped me into the manchild that I am today. While other kids were kicking back and watching Fraggle Rock, I was on a white-knuckle thrill ride with Robocop as my co-pilot.

Honourable Mention: Deep Rising – 1998 – Age 15

Best movie killers
At this point, I was already 15 and desensitized to pretty much everything the watered-down mid-90s had to offer, but Deep Rising had one very respectable moment. By today’s standards, the CG in Deep Rising is laughable, but that one scene, where that dude gets shot out of the tentacle half-dissolved is pure magic. He hits the ground like a soggy rag and drags himself to his feet screaming unintelligibly at his comrades, practically begging them for the sweet mercy of death. I was too old for this scene to affect me, but I was hoping somewhere, other youths were having their brain seared with the images of a badly CG’d man, half-dissolved screaming like a banshee. (Also, on another CG sidenote, I’ve always felt that his skull looked like metal. And robots shouldn’t scream.)

# 8 The Fly – 1986 – Age 4

Best movie killers
There are two critical scenes in this movie, aside from all the parts where Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldbum) is physically falling apart on his way to becoming a fly. But the two highlights in this film are:
1) Early on in his transformation, Brundle goes out and breaks a guy’s forearm during an arm-wrestling match. And far more disturbing is...
2) When Stathis Borans breaks into Brundle’s warehouse, the shit goes down. Brundle pukes all over Stathis’ hand and melts it to nothing more than a glorified ginger root. After that he barfs all over Stathis’ ankle, liquefying that as well. Don’t worry though, Stathis lives. He’s just a horribly deformed victim of Jeff Fucking Goldblum.
ALSO, if anyone can find me a video of either of these scenes, I would be appreciative!!

#7 Deep Star Six – 1989 – Age 7

Best movie killers
This movie has a couple nice little gems in it including a man who panics and heads to the ocean surface before pressurizing properly and he pretty much explodes in his escape pod. And then there’s another scene where a guy gets stabbed with an inflato-harpoon and he pretty much explodes too. Listen, the point I’m trying to make here is that a lot of people explode in this movie, but the finest scene for me, involves an unlucky schmo trapped in his cool looking mining suit. No, he doesn’t explode, but I bet he wishes he did.
